Hello!
I am happy to take part in Sunflower Publishing’s blog tour for author Nicole T. Smith. Her book We Have Shadows Too was a pleasure to read and I’m glad I got the chance to review it. Here is a copy of my review.
We Have Shadows Too is the story of Rella Cooper, a woman who moves from Colorado to California after getting her architectural degree. Even though she’s leaving behind her mother, brother and sister, Rella is excited to move because that will give her a new beginning and a chance to live on her own. Rella continues to experience severe headaches and other physical symptoms in her new home, the same symptoms she’d had for many years and that doctors couldn’t find anything wrong. Rella seeks the advice of a therapist who helps her work through the physical symptoms and how they might be related to past abuse. The therapy allows Rella to grow and come to peace with the past. Rella does well in her new career even gaining a new friend to watch movies and spend time with.
The story is told from the third person point of view with flashbacks to Rella’s youth in addition to the current timeline of the story. The message of how people should not be afraid to explore painful issues that hinder their growth as a person is evident through following Rella on her journey. I liked seeing Rella improve as the story goes on and how she became healthier in body, mind and spirit. Rella is a very likeable character. The author’s writing skill is evident in We Have Shadows Too as she weaves a story of a remarkable character. I loved this book. I highly recommend it and give it 5 stars.
